Tyler Younts is an attorney, husband, and father of three. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his law degree from Campbell University. He has experience as an attorney in both the private and public sectors.
In 2026, upon the recommendation of Speaker of the House Destin Hall, Younts was appointed by the General Assembly to serve as a Commissioner of the North Carolina Industrial Commission. Thereafter, Commissioner of Labor Luke Farley designated Younts to serve as Chairman of the Industrial Commission.
Younts previously served at the Industrial Commission as a law clerk at the Full Commission from 2014-2016. He then served a term as a Deputy Commissioner from 2016-2022, hearing workers’ compensation, tort claims, and other matters. After leaving the bench, Younts entered private practice, representing clients in workers’ compensation matters at the Deputy Commissioner, Full Commission, and appellate court levels, as well as in mediation. He returned to public service in January 2026 as Deputy General Counsel for Litigation at the North Carolina Department of Labor, where his work focused on protecting workers in OSHA enforcement, retaliatory employment discrimination, and wage and hour matters. Younts continued in this role until becoming Chairman of the Industrial Commission in August 2026.
As Chairman, Younts is committed to the fair administration and adjudication of claims, improving the efficiency and timeliness of the Commission’s decision-making process, and fostering a mission-driven culture within the Industrial Commission.
